Dec 9, 2025Updated Sep 18, 2026Ali Bin RizwanGuides8 min read

Ten Malaysian universities where international tuition starts near RM11,000 a year, with MYR and USD fees, standout programmes and scholarship notes.

This guide lists ten affordable universities in Malaysia for international students planning a 2026 intake. Each entry gives a short profile, an indicative annual tuition range in ringgit and US dollars, standout programmes, and a scholarship note where research supports one. All ten sit in the Unigeni verified catalogue, so you can check live programme listings on each institution profile and apply through the platform.

It is written for students from Pakistan, South Asia and Africa who want a recognised degree at a manageable fee level. The headline numbers: tuition across these ten generally runs from about RM11,000 to RM40,000 a year, roughly US$2,700 to US$9,900 at the September 2026 exchange rate of about RM4.05 to the dollar. For comparison, lecture-based undergraduate degrees in the UK typically charge international students £10,000 to £26,000 a year. Fees below are indicative. They change each intake, and international rates sometimes differ from local rates, so confirm the current figure on the institution profile before you apply.

Tuition Fee Spectrum Across Malaysian Higher Education: Public, Affordable Private, and Branch Campuses

We ranked the affordable end of the Unigeni verified catalogue and kept the ten universities below. Two caveats are worth stating up front. Malaysian public universities can be cheaper still, but international places are limited and admission windows work differently, so this list focuses on private institutions with steady international intakes. UK and Australian branch campuses in Malaysia sit at a higher fee level, roughly RM38,000 to RM80,000 a year, and are outside this list. Indicative Annual International Tuition Fees Across Top 10 Affordable Universities in Malaysia (MYR)

1. Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)

UTAR is a private not-for-profit university with campuses in Kampar and Sungai Long near Kuala Lumpur. It is widely regarded as one of the cheapest degree routes in Malaysia, particularly for accounting, business and engineering. The trade-off is a simpler campus experience than the big private brands offer.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM11,000 to RM20,000 a year (US$2,700 to US$4,900) for most three-year degrees. Medicine and some lab-based programmes cost much more.

2. Multimedia University (MMU)

MMU has campuses in Cyberjaya and Melaka and built its reputation on computing, engineering and creative multimedia. Cyberjaya places students next to Malaysia's technology corridor, which helps with internships and final-year projects. It remains one of the better-value technology universities in the Klang Valley.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM20,000 to RM28,000 a year (US$4,900 to US$6,900) for business and IT degrees.
  • Scholarship note: university listings mention a 10% tuition waiver for self-funded international students who do not hold a merit scholarship. Confirm the current terms with the university.

3. MAHSA University

MAHSA is a health-focused university in Selangor with a broad catalogue in nursing, pharmacy, business and medicine. Non-clinical degrees are priced at the low end of the private market, which makes it a common pick for students who want a health sciences environment without clinical fees.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM17,000 to RM22,000 a year (US$4,200 to US$5,400) for business and other non-clinical degrees. Clinical programmes such as medicine cost several times more.

4. Management and Science University (MSU)

MSU in Shah Alam is known for health sciences, business and hospitality, and it is a frequent choice for budget-conscious international students. The university recruits heavily abroad, and its international student support is mature as a result.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM18,000 to RM25,000 a year (US$4,400 to US$6,200) for most non-medical degrees. Medicine sits well above this range.

5. INTI International University

INTI's main campus in Nilai is one of the most international campuses in Malaysia, with established business, computing and engineering faculties. Class sizes and student services are geared toward students from South Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and foundation and diploma routes are priced below degree entry.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM21,000 to RM25,000 a year (US$5,200 to US$6,200) for degree programmes, with foundation and diploma routes costing less.
  • Scholarship note: the INTI International Education Scholarship applies to first-year tuition fees for qualifying students. Terms are published by the university.

6. Asia Pacific University (APU)

APU in Kuala Lumpur specialises in technology degrees, and its computing and cybersecurity programmes carry a strong reputation among employers. The campus is modern and the student body is heavily international, so most students settle in quickly.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM20,000 to RM29,000 a year (US$4,900 to US$7,200) for degree programmes. Its foundation programme is listed at RM28,400 in total for international students.

7. UCSI University

UCSI in Kuala Lumpur is one of Malaysia's largest private universities by enrolment, with broad faculties in business, engineering, hospitality and music. The university is also known for its co-operative education scheme, which builds work placements into many degrees.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM20,000 to RM30,000 a year (US$4,900 to US$7,400) for non-medical degrees. Medicine sits far above this range.

8. SEGi University

SEGi operates campuses in Kota Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sarawak, which gives it some of the widest geographic choice of any private provider. Business, early childhood education and psychology are popular picks. Fee listings vary noticeably by campus and programme, so pin down the exact figure early in your research.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM23,000 to RM40,000 a year (US$5,700 to US$9,900) for undergraduate programmes. This range is wide because published sources disagree, so treat it as a planning figure only.
  • Note: SEGi's official college site lists an international application and visa processing charge of about RM4,060.

9. HELP University

HELP in Kuala Lumpur has a long-standing reputation in business, psychology and law. Its business degrees are mid-priced for the quality on offer, and the university is a familiar name to employers in the Klang Valley.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM26,000 to RM29,000 a year (US$6,400 to US$7,200) for business degrees, based on a listed three-year total of RM82,800 and third-party international estimates.

10. Sunway University

Sunway in Bandar Sunway is the most expensive name on this list, and it is included as the value option among premium brands rather than as a budget pick. It pairs a strong business school with a modern, fully integrated campus. For students who want a premium campus experience at well below branch-campus fees, it fits.

  • Indicative tuition: about RM39,600 a year (US$9,733) for its international business degree, based on the university's 2026 estimate. Other programmes vary.

Reading these numbers responsibly

All figures above are indicative annual tuition for international students, gathered in September 2026 from official fee pages where available and from established aggregators otherwise. They exclude registration and resource fees, EMGS visa charges, medical insurance and living costs. Those extras add roughly RM6,000 to RM10,000 in your first year, plus RM18,000 to RM30,000 a year in living costs depending on the city. Our full Malaysia cost guide breaks all of this down line by line.

How the total compares with the UK and US

A three-year degree at the universities above, with living costs included, typically lands between RM100,000 and RM160,000 all-in, about US$25,000 to US$40,000. In the UK, international undergraduates pay £10,000 to £26,000 a year in tuition alone, so three years of tuition alone is roughly £30,000 to £78,000, about US$38,000 to US$100,000, before a single living cost. In the US, the College Board puts average published tuition and fees at out-of-state public universities at US$31,880 for 2025-26, and most degrees take four years. The fee gap, not marketing, is the main reason students from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria and the wider region choose Malaysia. Scholarships worth checking

Merit scholarships are common across Malaysian private universities and usually work as percentage discounts on listed fees rather than full rides. Two verified examples from this list: INTI's International Education Scholarship applies to first-year tuition, and MMU listings mention a 10% self-funded international waiver. Pakistani students should also look at Unigeni's own Xiamen University Malaysia exclusive scholarship, a tuition waiver available only through the platform. For everything else, ask each university directly what discount your grades could earn before you compare offers.

Before you commit anywhere, shortlist two or three of these universities free on Unigeni and compare their live fee sheets side by side.
